Last Minute Reminders

Next week our last school day is Wednesday June 25.  Monday is our class carnival day so dress appropriately for the outside weather!

Our math test is this Friday.  It will cover using an inch and centimeter ruler and measuring objects, addition and subtraction word problems, counting and adding money, line plots, and reading and telling time.

Math test

Just writing to inform you if your child hasn't yet, we will be having our module 6 test on Friday, May 16.  The test will focus on even and odd numbers, repeated addition, creating arrays, and writing  repeated addition sentences to match a give array.  We will begin review on Tuesday of this week!

Here are the videos of each second grade class performing their reader's theater scripts.  Mr. Buss' class wrote their own version to the story Stone Soup called Stone Sundaes.  Ms. Bunton's class wrote their own version to the story of the Three Little Pigs.  Mrs. Cacheiro's class wrote their own version to Cinderella.

Readers Theater Performance

Hello parents!  We sent home invitations this past week to invite you to our readers theater performance this upcoming Tuesday morning, but if you didn't get one, look for it Monday in your child's take home folder.  We will be getting together in Ms. Bunton's room, room 256, at 8:30.

We've been focusing on determining the moral of he fables that we've read, most noteworthy the stories of Stone Soup, Cinderella, and The Three Little Pigs.  With that being said, our project we've worked on included the students writing their own version of one of the previously mentioned fables, and this is what they will be performing.  Students participating in this highly motivating performance have worked on increasing their reading fluency and  accuracy.

We hope to see you there but if not, look back here for pictures and/or video of your children hard at work!!

Curriculum Night

Hello, we are sending home flyers for our Curriculum night, March 25 from 3-4 pm.  It is our hope to be able to inform you about Literacy and Math strategies to help your child succeed.  We hope to see you then!

Also, your child is bringing home their math test that they took on Wednesday.  We went over them in class today and have assigned them to do corrections for a better grade.

We went to the Art Museum at Niagara University yesterday.  Check back soon for pictures of our trip!!

Last minute things...

Just wanted to remind/ alert you of a few last minute things:

1. Permission slips (purple) are due back tomorrow so that we have a head count and can request the appropriate number of buses.
1. The $2 fee can be turned in Monday, Feb. 24, the day of the field trip.
2. The Harriet Tubman booklet/ packet will be handed out today and is due back the day we return from the mid-winter break.
3. There will be a Module 4 math test Wednesday, Feb. 26.  I will be giving out a math pretest to take that will cover the material that your child will be tested on over the break and we will review in class the days before the test.  Please study addition and subtraction over the break.

Reminders

Parents, please remember that all permission slips must be turned in this Friday Feb. 14 for the February 24th field trip to the Castellani Art Museum.  If you would need an extention until Monday Feb. 24 to turn in the $2, please do so that day.
Also, for the upcoming winter break, all second grade students will be assigned a reading packet on the Underground Railroad to be completed over the break and due back the Monday they return to school.

Cold Days

Hi everyone, hope you're staying warm these past two days.  We just wanted to send out a reminder as far as the homework calendar is concerned, when we have snow days we ask that your child continues to read his/her independent books and tries to catch up on any other homework assignments that haven't been completed yet. Thursday January 9

A quick word; there will not be a homework calendar this week because of the two snow days.  With that being said, just as a reminder tonight's MATH homework is to finish the classwork that we started in class: Mod 4, Lesson 10.  As always, continue to read from your book baggies for at least 30 minutes each night.

Permission slips for the Field Trip next Thursday went home today.  Please fill them out and return them to your child's teacher as soon as possible.

Welcome back students!  Some important information we would like to get out to you before next week's homework calendar gets posted:

1. We'll be taking a field trip to UB's campus on Thursday, January 16th.  Permissions slips will be sent out early next week, keep an eye out for them!
2. There will be no school on Monday, January 20th, due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
3. Friday, January 31 will be a Sock Hop for our students.  They will need to have a certain amount of ROCKS to attend. Start earning them now!!!!
