Holiday Concert Tonight!!!

Tonight is the Holiday Concert and our second graders will be performing a few songs that should really impress you!  The students that are performing need to return to school by 5:15 and the show starts at 6 pm. See you there!

Zoo Project Presentations

Needed Materials for Humanities (all second grade students)

Hi there!  We're into our Building Bridges unit for Humanities and will be attempting to build an actual bridge after we learn more and more about them.  Attached is a list of materials that each student will need to bring in for their bridge.  Let us know in the comments section below or by email if there's something you aren't able to provide so we can take the necessary steps in getting that.
Thanks, and let the creativity in all of us begin to grow!  All materials will be needed the day we return from the winter break (Jan. 2) so that we can begin building our bridges Monday, January 6, 2014.

Homework Packet 1

Dear Parents,

Beginning this week, all students will bring home a homework packet. Please check it daily.   Please help your child complete the homework, and please also put your initials on the homework so we know you have checked it.   On Monday-Thursday they will bring home a short assignment that might be math, reading, writing...the emphasis is on learning organizational skills by completing and turning in homework.  All Reading and writing assignments in the homework packet are due on Friday morning.  It is our hope that the variety and conciseness of the assignments will help students get into the "homework habit." If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.

Thank you to all the parents and family members that were able to make it in for our open house night.  We appreciate the time you took to meet with us and discuss any concerns you had.  For those of you that would like to still discuss your child's academics, please feel free to contact us either through email or in the comments section below.  Just remember that your involvement at home is the first step in your child's growth and is so helpful to us as well.  Thank you again!

Attached is the homework calendar for this week.  Any assignments that your child does not bring home today but that are on the calendar will be given out by that day that it is assigned.  Everything, Math included, can be returned by Friday of the week.

Math Test Update

The original plan to have the Module 3 test on Tuesday will be rescheduled for Friday, Dec. 6. due to Tuesday being a half day for students.  This will allow for more days of review in and out of school.  Please study!!!

Parent Teacher Conference

Parent teacher Conferences will be held Tuesday Dec. 3 from 12:30 - 6:30 PM in your child's homeroom class.  Students will have a half-day of school on this day with dismissal at 11:30 AM.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Book-fair is coming to WCCS on 12-2-13 through 12-6-13.  Mr. Buss' class will be going on Monday Dec. 2, Ms. Bunton's class will be going Wednesday Dec. 4 and Mrs. Cacheiro's class will be going on Thursday Dec. 5.   Family Night is Tuesday Dec. 3 from 4:30-6:30 PM. All are welcome and we hope to see you there!

Cupcake Party!

Mr. Buss and Ms. Bunton's students searched high and low and returned as many library books as they could find the past few weeks and because of it, the students have earned a cupcake party hosted by Mrs. Venator.  Just for bragging rights, the students in room 254 returned 264 books, 72 more than room 256.  But with hard work and dedication comes rewards, and Tuesday we will be rewarded!  Congrats again to the students in rooms 254 and 256!!!!

Math Test and Lessons/Notes

Students will be taking their math test for Module 3 on Tuesday Dec. 3.  Please use the link below to access the entire unit and practice important concepts.  At the end of the unit is an "End-Of-Module Post Assessment" that will be similar to the test they take Dec. 3.  Have a look and if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment in the Comments section below and I'll do my best at getting back to you quickly.  Hope this is helpful. Community Food Drive

As a second grade, we are trying to collect canned food items for needy families.  Please help us win a PIZZA PARTY by collecting the following canned food items: Candied Yams, Macaroni and Cheese, and Cranberry Sauce.  We will be collecting these items through December 13th.  Simply send any of these in with your child to help us with our community food drive.  Thanks in advance!

Zoo Field Trip

Just a reminder that we are going to the Buffalo Zoo this Friday, Nov. 22.  Permission slips have been sent home and need to be signed and returned no later than Thursday, Nov. 21 to reserve your child a spot on the trip.  The trip is free to second grade and WCCS will provide each student with a lunch.  Students DO NOT have to wear their uniform but please have them dress appropriately for the weather.  

Ghost Town Outlaws!

In our Humanities unit of the Wild West, we are currently reading the story Ghost Town at Sundown from the Magic Tree House series.  While we are learning more and more about what the Wild West was like, we have come across some outlaws of our own!  Check it out...
